Fireworks Ordinance- City of Atkins

Summary of the fireworks Ordinance 207 for the City of Atkins

allows Firework Use during the following times:

1)         June 28th thru July 4th from the hours of 9 am to 11 pm each day.

2)       Sky lantern open flame devices are not permitted to be released within the city limits, except if tethered by a retrievable rope so long as the person discharging has control over the sky lantern.

Atkins Water Quality Report 2021

The City of Atkins Water System Water Quality Report (CCR for 2021) is available.

The report is a standard Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) format. The purpose is to provide information about the Atkins Municipal Water System to the public.  The report is issued each year and covers calendar year 2021, January through December.

Fire Station Rebuild Information

The City of Atkins Iowa is rebuilding the Fire Station that was destroyed in the storm disaster of August 2020.  The Atkins Volunteer Fire Department is operating from temporary buildings around town. The Volunteer Fire Department serves the City of Atkins, the Rural Fire District and responds to any call for emergency services. The emergency services may include fires of any type, medical calls, vehicle accidents and any other emergency call made by the public. The service provided by the volunteers is invaluable to the safety of the community.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, began during the American Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. After World War I, it came to be observed in honor of those who had died in all U.S. wars, and its name changed to Memorial Day.

The fire station building was destroyed in August 2020. The fire department continues to provide service from limited facilities.
