Council member Shawn Steffen has requested his resignation and at a meeting of the Atkins City Council, on August 22, 2023, the City Council accepted the resignation. We want to thank Shawn for his service on the City Council and thank him for the time he has been able to serve. To fill the vacancy, the City Council may make an appointment or call for a special election. The Council may discuss the process used to fill the vacancy at the Sept 12, 2023 City Council meeting. The action to fill the vacancy may occur at a later meeting beyond the Sept 12 meeting. Letter requesting resignation.

Monday, August 28, 2023. 8:35 pm. The Drinking Water Advisory is lifted.
Customers of the Atkins, Iowa Public Water Supply. The Drinking Water Advisory issued on August 25, 2023 is no longer in effect. We are pleased to report the bacterial samples were satisfactory (contained no bacteria) for all samples. It is no longer necessary to boil your water before use. The sampling process and protocol are monitored by the DNR with samples analyzed by an independent testing laboratory.

On December 15, 2022, the Atkins City Council voted to appoint Shawn Steffen to fill a vacant seat.
The term of this appointment is immediate through Dec 30, 2023.
