Water Department News!

The City of Atkins will be doing some work on our well.  The work should start on or around August 19th.  If everything goes as planned there should be no interruption in service and the water should remain safe throughout the process.  A boil order should not be necessary.

If the work being done does cause a need for a precautionary boil order we will send communication to each household and update all of our media to give details of the order.

At this time a boil order is not planned to be necessary.

You will find a variety of handmade items from some very talented people. Make a day of it shopping for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions or just because. Enjoy a great lunch provided by the American Legion Auxiliary. I am also looking for new vendors to display their handmade crafts. Please contact me as soon as possible to secure your booth. City of Atkins Mayor’s News

Mayor news for August 2019

Mayor will be at City Hall August 10 from 9 to 10 to talk with you about questions or concerns residents may have. Anyone is welcome.

Property lines are a common issue when planning to build a fence, building or even plant a tree among other things. It is a good idea to check your property lines so you know where your responsibility lies for care and maintenance too. Benton County has a great resource for property information where you can view your property boundary on-line. Here is how to find your information – search the web for Beacon Benton County Iowa, click on BEACON, select the state of Iowa, the county of Benton, click property search and then enter your preference of property search by address or your name to find your property. Click MAP for a picture of the property boundary. A surveyor can provide exact information, but this will give you an idea of your property line.

Overdue books and fines:   All books must be returned, and fines paid before a patron can check out new items. Letters have been sent to households that have outstanding items and fines (and yes some are quite old). Thanks for your attention to this matter. Letters will be sent monthly to remind patrons to return items and pay fines. Thanks to all the patrons who have returned their overdue items and paid their fines. To avoid future overdue items and fines the computer system is set up to either e-mail you or text you when items are due. If you are not getting either message contact the library to update your account.

Summer Reading Program was once again a great success. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it a success. Over 70 children participated each week along with an average of 15 volunteers.
