The City of Atkins Water Department tests the water for everything covered by our permit issued by the Iowa DNR. The current results are listed in the most recent Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), which is updated and published each year for the year before.
The CCR is required by the U.S. EPA under the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1996. The Iowa DNR administers Iowa’s Drinking Water Program, as delegated by the U.S. EPA.
The Water Department monitors for bacteria. Samples are drawn, tests are performed at a certified lab and the results reported to the Iowa DNR and published in the CCR.
The 2024 CCR indicates that the City of Atkins drinking water complies with all federal and state drinking water quality standards.
In addition to the web version of the report, anyone, including non-bill paying customers, may obtain a printed copy by calling City Hall or the Water Department at 319-446-7870.
